I need to calculate d2 factor, a conversion factor for estimating the standard deviation. Can I use a spreadsheet program (Excel) for calculate this factor? What kind of fuction I must use?

Yes, there is a built in function in Excel for this. It is called d2Con, and it was a new addition to Excel 2003. If you have this version, then it should be simple. In my experiences, the instructions Excel provides when using one of its many commands are quite good, and should explain exactly how to do what you want.

if u have a TI-80 3 or something similar, u can enter the pattern into ur calculator as a catalogue and run a million Var stats. then use the Sx of that and the inhabitants Std dev is Sx/squarert.(n)
