do you guys think that the sudden proliferation of gay magazines mean that our society is beginning not only to tolerate, but accept members of the third sex?

moreover, do you think that the magazines affect the public's image of the filipino gay? or the gay's image of himself?

im looking for ideas on how to start my thesis, and any help would be much appreciated.

thanks!

Well, the issue of acceptance of the third sex is different from the acceptance of gays.

But yes, I think that magazines and other media do have an affect on the public's perception of gay people. Public perception and the media tend to influence each other.

I think that having gay people beamed into everyone's living rooms over television does have an overall positive effect, as long as the media's portrayal is positive. In the short term, it can make some people more reactionary and bigoted, since their comfort zones are being challenged. But in the long term, I think the societal effects are a greater tolerance of others. However, if the portrayal is negative, I think only greater intolerance results.

I think sometimes the media is responsible for the acceptance of Gay people, but not everyone is flaming like the guys from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I don't think those people represent me at all. I'm actually rather straight acting, and sometimes the media's portrayal of gay men is really stereotypical and wrong.

The best "idea" would be to quit referring to someone's sexual orientation as another "sex". There are only two genders. Attempting to suggest there is another points to the fact that you don't know anything about the subject you are trying to address.

It sure seems that the community is trying to accept homosexuals. My opinion is that homosexuality is pointless and like rebellion against God. If you look in the Bible at 1st Corinthians chapter 6 verse 9, you will see that God does not favor homosexuality. Being gay is merely a choice in mind rather than a choice in heart and is in vain. God still loves you and wants to be with you and I hope you will see why God made the opposite sex.
