People who've been at sea for some time, or on a very long flight perhaps .. even astronauts, have been heard to say 'It's good to be back on 'Terra Firma' which means from the Latin, 'Earth Solid' or in proper English 'Solid Earth' or 'Solid Ground'.

It would seem to be a way of saying stable land for an astronaut or one that travels through space, but I can't seem to find any exact defintions. Sounds latin though, might be a good place to start.
