could be spyware. That slows down a computer a lot. I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE...you can scan your computer for spyware and delete them easily. Just make sure you keep them updated. I think you can download it free from Download.com....Spyware Blaster helps prevent spyware from being able to get to your computer also. I recommend all 3. You need to have like a full suit of armor to get on the internet nowadays!

Sounds like your computer ran faster when it was new and now is running much slower. Assuming there is no hardware damage (shouldn't be unless you've rough handled it), the problem is most likely "software overload". First, run spyware cleaners such as Spybot and Ad-aware (both free). They'll delete most of the "crap" that downloads to your computer everytime you connect to the internet. Also run a virus cleaner (AVG 7.5 is a good free program). Then, go to your start program and reduce to a minimum the number of programs that load when your computer boots. Most programs want you to load them automatically each time you boot your computer, because it assures you might use the program. But this wastes a lot of your computer resources (RAM, processor power, etc) and really slows down your computer. When you delete a program from your startup menu, you are not deleting the program itself, just the command that allows it to load on boot up. Hope this helps.

Anything on the PC, can they be removed. If so reinstall from Windows CD deleting the partition and start over.
If you want to save what you have now:
*Run SPYBOT and Microsoft Defender to kill off spyware.
*Search out and destroy any programs you cannot recognize or use
*Add more memory
*Defrag once a month or 2
* remove as many programs form starting on bootup - MSCONFIG, there are only 2 programs running down by my clock.
*Do a DFT test on your drive and interface. Free utility, quick
harmless test.
***Indexing: MS has said to turn off indexing is ok. My Computer, Right click C:, uncheck indexing service, ignore any errors/
* Have IE advanced options delete all temporry files when IE closes.

You can send it back to Dell....but before you do, try these system tools:
Start -> Programs -> Accessories-> System Tools and click on Disk Defragmentor and Disk Cleanup...only conduct tests on your C Drive... Make sure that you are not logged onto the internet when you do these tests... these tests should be done 1x a month..Also subscribe to Norton or Spy sweeper..and you can get the following spyware detection programs for free;
CC Cleaner, AdAware....Hope this helps!

I would first run a virus scan, for this will look for viruses and spy-ware that could slow down your computer then look at how many start applications you have and reduce the ones you do not need, then I would defragment the hard disk, and take it from there. By doing those three steps you should make your computer a lot more responsive.

You can add more RAM. I had the same problem but I upgraded my computer's memory and now it works a lot faster. It's very easy to install. :]
