Don't stress, it will come to you. Just think of it as using a pencil, rule and eraser.
Just concern yourself with the simple parts.
It's easy for a teacher to confuse beginners by showing them how clever the program is (and how clever they are by knowing what to do).
If you are interested in design, or like to produce a quality product then you will succeed, and before long you will be wanting to learn 3D modeling.
Please keep it up, there's not enough drafters, designers and engineers around these days.
It's a great profession to be in. Good luck.

I am an AutoCAD drafter for 10 years now and I had no drafting experience when I first started. I would suggest that you take your time and don’t get frustrated with it.

Learn the short cut commands (L = Line, C = Circle, etc.) and later you can input your own into the acad.pgp file. My instructor wouldn’t let us use the dropdown menu as he put it the time it takes to go to the dropdown menu with the mouse will always be the same, however, your fingers can always type faster.

It will also take some time learning the angles since 0 is to the right and not to the top, but if you learn 0 is right side and 180 is the left then everything about that line is positive number and below is a negative number. For example a line drawn at a distance at an angle of <330 can actually be inputted as <-30 or <270 is also -90.

You can also look into AutoCAD user groups. Autodesk has a good link on their web site. Everyone is very willing to answer questions.

Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions
