I have seen several different keys used to access the BIOS depending on the make.

F1
F10
DEL
ESC
and in the case of ComPaq there is the capability to remove the BIOS access program from the harddrive requiring you to use the F10 utility from a floppy disk...

F8 is used to boot into Windows Safe mode I have not seen it used for BIOS access

you should see some text to tell you what you need to press. Machine like bios's are different. Most you just hit delete on boot up ..sometimes it is a function key, without more info can't be precise.
