why the oxygen is widely used in the manufacture of nitric acid?

I want to know about the role of dative bond between nitrogen and oxygen.Also I wanted to know about the ro0le of lechatlier principle in it.

Since nitric acid is HNO3, it would make sense to use oxygen to produce the acid.
