Most of us are proud of our sexuality, but for those of us who have faced ridicule and pain because they are gay, if you had the option would you have honestly chosen to be gay.

I know none of us get a choice, but if you did what would you have done.

There was a time in my life, early on, when I tried to be straight, and if I had the option at the time, I would have changed in a heartbeat. It was a very lonely time for me, and that sort of an opportunity was all I hoped for.

But over time, I realized that this is the way I'm supposed to be. And now that I'm settled down and have my own family and the most loving environment I could hope for, I wouldn't EVER change... even if it were as easy as saying a magic word.

Going through the ridicule and pain has formed the kind of person I am today. And while I am not always a nice person, I am always a good person. So, I think everything, including me being born gay has served a purpose.

I myself have ponder this question many times...but try not to think of the "IFs" or in that matter the "BUTS" I rather not think of what could have been, I'm happy the way my life came out..I'm 23 yr old, with a great job, a hot boy friend, a house I'm buying, a vacation I'm going to take....so I would say if you want a direct answer to your question would be that Yes, I would choice to be who I am gay because that's who I am..!

I'd still be gay, even if I had the choice. I think it's who I am, and I have a great life. I enjoy living my life as I do, and I wouldn't change it for anything, or anyone.

I've been shot, had my skull broken with a pipe, been beaten so badly I spent a month in the hospital. I've lost apartments, jobs, friends, all because people were brought up to believe gay is bad. I'd much prefer that society change to accept me for who I am. Despite having some bad experiences, I LIKE who I am. I DO NOT what to change!!!
I am a proud queer grrl. Deal with it.

I didn't choose this, I was born this. I don't know any other way. I can't imagine being straight, or of a different race. Yes, I have been judged based on who I love, but then these are the types of people I don't want around me.

Hey Kringle just looking at one of your past questions.. where to meet other people.

For Irish people a good place to start is

http://www.outhouse.ie/

they have a group called "belong to" who cater for people of the ages 14-23 and hold meetings.

Also try,

www.gayswitchboard.ie

(you'll have to ring them though - they never check email) while this is a better resource for parents you can call them for advice. These websites are specifically Irish and more relevant to you.

Dude, knowing what I have now...no way.

If I had been "given a choice" as a kid ...definitely.

Wait a minute...my Ken Doll was kind of cool.....

Nobody would choose to be ridiculed, which is why you do not choose to be gay
