Can't imagine how they could possibly do it justice. It was a masterpiece written, not only over several volumes, but also over many years. Reading them, you get the sense of the writer growing in skill and vision as he progresses the story, but how could that be adequately conveyed on film.
Be interesting to hear what King himself thinks about it. He has been very critical of some film adaptations of his books, and famously said he would be reluctant to give permission for anything he couldn't be heavily involved in, after they massacred The Shining.

that's only a rumor, and Damon and Carlton have stated many times that they are going to take an particularly lengthy damage once the sequence finally wraps. yet i visit wager you that they received't. somewhat because maximum Stephen King diversifications instruct to be crap. D&C might want to have more than a number of more desirable sensible possibilities on the table even as they're waiting than adapting a movie of the week. One assure is that Damon will be co writing superstar Trek 2. in the different case, each and every thing else is only rumors.

The only decent thing they have ever made into a movie from Stephen King is The Green Mile. And The Stand as a mini series. I hope that if they do go ahead then it gets the money and input it deserves. So many of his books have been ruined by B-rate movies and poor acting and low budgets.

The comic book was just released last week. It is pretty good so far but it is only the first issue. Movies would be good but I just can't imagine anyone making the 5 or 6 movie it would take to tell the story. I think a television mini series would probably be the most realistic format. It would probably have to be on cable to do the books justice, otherwise it would end up being the usual watered down television trash.

It would probably be too difficult to maintain in a trilogy, but I would be first in line to watch it. I agree with Vixen, it IS the best story I've ever read.
However, you should read George R R Martin's series which begins with A Game of Thrones. Excellent reading, maybe better than The Dark Tower.

I think it would be great, as long as Stephen King is directly involved, and it stays true to the books. I don't like the way they often change the movie. I like movies to be exactly like the book. It would be a long movie though, unless they split into sequels, because the series has seven books in it!!!!!

I think it would be a great TV show or mini-series. It wouldnt be exactly like the book for they would have to censor so much of the graphic violence. Other King novels have done quite well on TV though, such as "IT", "The Stand", etc. I would be sure to watch this or buy the DVD.

Wow - I would certainly be itching to watch it! However, considering that those books are the BEST STORY I'VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE, I don't think the magic that is The Dark Tower could sufficiently translate to TV/cinema. Nevertheless, like you say, it could be GREAT!

it does not lend itself to cinematic structure. lotr was a sinple heroic narrative, but the dark tower had a lot fo too and fro. I think a hbo production woulds be the best bet , but with preacher in production I doubt they would want another western
