Wow. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are my FAVORITE band and gnr are a VERY close second. So it's tough to say. Guitar? Can't pick. John and Slash are INCREDBLE guitarists. Bass? Flea. Lyrics? Mmm probably the peppers. Vocals? Each good in their own way. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have more diverse group of songs, just because they've released more. Guns n Roses had a lot of incredible songs too. But keep in mind the chili peppers were around before them, and Axl even said he drew some inspiration from them. I don't think you can compare the two bands.
They both come from different scenes of music and write different types of music. Yea they have a lot in common, hot lead singers and guitarists but in the end it's all about personal preference.

Chili Peppers, they're far more talented and when I just listen to Guns and Roses all I think is just a few hit wonders...they weren't really much of anything and basically was the space between 80's Hair Metal and Grudge

Both are great in their own right, however I would choose the Peppers if only because I have read Scar Tissue which was a fascinating book and have seen them live and they blew me away with their energy. Roses did a great version of my favourite bond theme - Live and Let Die, so respect to them for that.

Definately the chili peppers. They have such a range of styles, from their mellower new albums to their funky old ones.
They have real character, abd baack in their day were something new and fresh, they exploded in to the music scene with crazy mohawks only wearing socks.

And they have an awesome name!

Depeneds:
GNR in their hey day...When Axel was all tweaked out and slamming wine bottles on chicks head was probably better than RHCP in their hey day.
BUT,
Red Hot CHilli Peppers have succesfully been coming out with great hits one after another..even their new stuff rocks! While GNR kinda fell apart and will never be again and Axel's "clean" comeback was horrendous.

Chili Peppers because their songs make me really listen to what they're trying to say.

RHCP. Songs like Rollercoaster of Lurve. So funky! When I think of GNR I think of the clip with Kurt Cobain getting on a higher level of a stage while the bass man calls out "go Axle go". GNR seem too cliche and 80s now.
