Take .30 X 500 and you'll get 150.
Any time you want a percentage of something just put a decimal point in front of the number and multiply it. Like I did 30% = .30. So 30% of 500 is 150. .30 X 500 = 150
If it's a single digit like 8, you'll need to put a .0 in front of the number, like this. 8% =.08, then multiply the same way. .08 X 500 = 40.
I hope that helps.

First convert 30% to decimal
Remove the % sign. divide 30 by 100 to get the decimal

To find a % of an amount then you need to multiply the % by the amount
i.e 30% = 30 / 100
30 devided by 100 multiplied by 500 = $150

If you had to do it in your head...
First find 10% of 500 - that's easy, just take off the last digit...
10% of 500 = 50
3 x 10% = 30%
so, 3 x 50 = 150
