Yes, there is one book that stands out the most in my memory. It was Walter Ripman's "A First English Book" published by J.M. Dent & Sons Limited, an English textbook my father studied in his junior secondary school. I was about 8 or 9 years old then and it's a wonder for me; I simply turned page after page to see strange pictures like a donkey on a man's back or some needles with the heads, hands and legs like human beings. Surprisingly, it's my own secret and I didn't ask anyone to read nor explain those pictures to me; instinctively, I thought then it had to be an English book (my father taught me to memorize the English alphabets) with strange letters/alphabets and wondered how I could read or write them since they looked difficult. I don't know how that book disappeared.
Some 20 years ago I found Books I and II in some second-hand bookshops, I bought them cheaply and, from time to time, I take them out to read and look at those pictures with fond memories.

When The Legends Die by Hal Borland.

The setting for this book is and area in southern Colorado where my mom grew up so I can visualized in my mind the landmarks that are referenced. It really brings the story to life. When I was a boy we would drive through Pagosa Springs, before Art Linkletter turned it into a resort town, and I can still see the old Ute men and the Ute women with their brightly colored dresses hanging around town. The book is about a Ute boy who is caught between the old Indian ways and the way the white culture tries to make him. It's an easy read - about an eighth grade level - but in my opinion it's worth the time.

Aside from the Bible
I would have to say the book that has had the most impact on my life is the Jerusalem series by Bodie and Brock Thoene. It's an historical fiction series that explores the lives of several key people who knew and / or interacted with Jesus in His time. Very good reading.
Mary of Magdeline
the Shepherd who first saw the star
Roman soldier who's servant Jesus healed
Martha
Blind boy by the pool whom Jesus healed
and many more..... 5 books so far
fascinating

I read a LOT of books when young, even the encylopedia (yawn), but my favorite still is Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. You'd have to read it. I loved SciFi, and this is a classic (among some other greats)

One of my favorite authors is Jasper Fforde. I wait for his next book. The first one that I read was The Eyre Affair. Any book in the Thursday Next series is great. He has the greatest sense of humor and whimsey that I have ever known.

I read a passage of the Pickwick Papers featuring Tony Weller. I couldn't believe it was so funny and still over 150 years old. It opened my eyes to a new world.
