I have a persistent memory from pre-decimal schooldays in the UK that, somewhere and sometime, a hairsbreadth was defined to be precisely one forty-eighth of an inch. No amount of later Googling has confirmed this for me.

If you want to get technical about it I'd say about 1/10th of a millimeter. This is a variable number though,different people have different hair thickness!

Hi. It is an expression only. A human hair varies in diameter but .003 is about right.

I think the term is actually 'a hair's breadth'.....meaning the width of a hair.
