Because it appears everywhere naturally, plants animals even humans possess dimensional properties that adhere to the ratio PHI : 1

Eg The distance from your head to the ground divided by the distance from your navel (bellybutton) to the ground is PHI.

the number of female bees in a hive divided by males will always equal PHI

The 'Phi-Nest': Source to the golden section, golden mean, divine proportion, Fibonacci series and phi

Phi, the divine proportion, equals slightly over 1.6. Phi is related to the Fibonacci sequence, (each number is the sum of the two previous numbers ie: 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 etc) in that each number, when divided by the previous equals 1.618.

It is pronounced "fye" as in fee fi fo fum... :)

Have you read Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code"? There are several example in it such as the distance between the spirals of the shell of a nautilus.

If you pick any limb, eg leg, the distance from your hip to the ground divided by the distance from your knee to the ground is approximately 1.6

This works with arms, from shoulder to fingertip divided by elbow etc is 1.6, elbow to finger tip divided by wrist to fingertip... 1.6 etc. (I haven't tried this by the way).

It can also be used with the distance between leaves on the stalk of a flower...

Google Da Vinci, I think he was the one who coined the term "Divine Proportion", it has a different mathematical name "The Golden Ratio" and it is called Phi after the Greek sculptor Phidias.

Phi = 1.618 is used in fibonacci series, specially mentioned in da vinci code, also called golden ratio, actually thousands of examples are found, arm to hand, knee to feet are all near to phi, fibonacci series = tn= PHI/3.618
