When I was little and went to school, on St Davids day we wore our National Costume, I know Scotland and Ireland have one too. But what's England's?? What do the kids wear on St George's day, I can't find the national dress of England. Why haven't you got one?

I did some research on national and international costumes some years back, and was told there is no official national costume for England. The only one I could find was the London Pearlie King and Queen outfits which are black and decorated all over with mother of pearl buttons in varied patterns. Internationally the Englishman was defined by the dark pinstripe suit, bowler hat, and black umbrella; or the Sherlock Holmes deerstalker and coat. Morris dancers outfits vary from region to region, even from group to group, and are often modern interpretations, though they have common features such as flowered hats, bells and neckerchiefs.

No national dress because we're such a mixed religous and ethnic country.
It's difficult to define what, 'English' really is so picking an outfit would be even more of a task.
We're a proud nation but moreso of values and ethics than outdated traditions. England is constantly changing and updating and I'm sure the country reflects this.

I think a national dress would be a great idea :)

We don't appear to have one as such-probably because we've never seen the need to define ourselves with costume-I have no idea why-personally I think it might be nice to be more definitive about our English nationality without it being football associated.

Kids tend to wear red and white on St.George's day-be that an England flag t-shirt or just block colours.

The three piece business suit is the English national dress.

Its become copied & worn so much all over the world, that most of the English aren't even aware of its role and its creation here.
