I have a Fender Squier Strat and I like to play stuff like Hinder, Staind, etc. I don't do a lot of solos.

If you are not doing lead solos you can get away with heavier strings. Maybe 10's or 11's. If you detune your guitar alot, you will need heavier strings, maybe 11's or 12's.

D'addario EXL's are the best strings, at least for me. Hope this helps.

get high quality steel strings meant for thrashing electric guitars. They last longer.

Guitar strings will probably work best.
