Scents are a great way to encourage certain feelings. It is widely known that Lavender is used to promote good rest and relaxation, peppermint and citrus cents wakes you up, and honey suckle can help you remember things from long ago.

Scents can also trigger memories from years past. It's why babies know who their mothers are; It's why when you smell a certain scent, a memory flashes through your mind ever so quickly, and you are transported back to that time and place for a brief moment.

Good luck with your research.

Yes, it does take you back doesn't it. Guess it is a matter of association. It is not just you. I recall a lot of memories. Like how a new text book smells, a perfume worn by a special girlfriend, sounds and music do the same too.

They say that the better you can remember smells the better chance you have of not getting alztymiers disease. I guess I don't have anything to worry about because I can remember the smell of the lilac bushes when I was four years old. On the other hand people with senility remember their childhood and can't remember twenty minutes ago.
