I think you mean porosity and permeability.
Porosity is a measure of the open, empty spaces in a rock--usually a sedimentary rock. It is important, because a porous rock (rock with high porosity) can hold significant amounts of groundwater or oil.
Permeability is a measure of how easily fluids like water and oil can move through a porous rock. This is important because water or oil can migrate from one area to another--and maybe accumulate in a spot if the structure is right.
