It all depends on the criteria. If your talking winning, then its gotta be Bill Russell. All he did was win.
In college, he won two national championships. Then he went to the olympics and won a gold medal. Then he joined the Celtics, and in his first year, won a championship. He then proceeded to win ten more in his next twelve seasons. Nobody has even come close to that.
Not only that, but he was probably the greatest defensive player ever. This is before they awarded players for defensive ability.
If you're going by personal stats, then its Wilt Chamberlain. He was simply the most dominant player ever. He holds records that will never be broken.
Just a few examples: Michael Jordan's best scoring season was 37.1 ppg. Wilt topped that 3 TIMES!! And once AVERAGED 50.4 ppg. Think about that for a minute....if a player scores 50 points in one game today, its headline news. Wilt AVERAGED that for a whole season.
He also had a 100 point game, and six games in which he scored at least 70 (something MJ never did).
He won 7 scoring titles in a row, and 11 rebounding titles. He was the greatest rebounder of all time. And he did this while playing against Hall of Famers like Russell.
So take your pick: Wilt or Russell...the greatest center(s) of all time.

Due to the era Wilt and Bill Russel played in I'm not sure the competition was near todays level, but they definitely are both top 5 centers of all time. Also on that list are Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajawon and Kareem Abdul Jabar. Patrick Ewing falls into the top 10 list due to no rings.

Gotta Go with Kareem Abdul Jabbar, The leagues number one scorer of all time. And the guy played for 20 years. Not a lot of Centers can play for that long in the League.

Bill Russell, he may not be the best scoring Center but he was the better defender and was athletic enought to get his buckets. The man has more championship rings that his fingers can handle. He won as a player and a coach. what more can you ask?

Chmaberlin. They changed the rules in basketball to keep him out of the lane. Also free throw rules he used to flip it at the basket then come down the lane before anyone and dunk it. Now you can't leave the free throw line until the ball hits the rim.
