My son is 5 /12 months old and I haven't had a period yet (obviously apart from the bleeding after giving birth). I am breastfeeding and I've heard this can delay your first period but just wondering when I can expect to get it?

My baby is 7 months now and has been taking solids in addition to the breastfeeding since she was 4 months. No sign of my period yet though..... Bit dissapointing as want to have another baby as soon as possible.

My friends period emerged after 3 months post partum even though she was fully breastfeeding and another friend waited a year.
I guess its varies dramatically.....

I wouldn't worry, my baby is nearly 8 months old-I still haven't had one yet! I'm also Breastfeeding, this is perfectly normal. when I was breastfeeding my daughter, who is now 5, my periods returned just after 6months. Every one is different. Although just because you haven't had a period, doesn't mean you cant get pregnant, this happened my aunt 3 times! so be ware! I remember my health visitor telling me to wait to you have finished breastfeeding your baby a full year before going to see your dr about periods not returning.

I was a breastfeeding mom as well it took me till i stopped breastfeeding to get my period and that was for about a year and a half. It is normal just dont think of it as a type of birth control. You can still get pregnant even though you are breastfeeding. It happened to my sister in law.
Hope this helps

You are fine. Breastfeeding can delay and so can alot of other things. I didn't get my first one after my daughter until she was over a year old. It was hella scary too cuz I was soaking through a pad like every couple of hours, I used a disposable diaper for overnight the second night and woke up with it completely saturated. Gross but be prepared, it can be different from any other one you have had before. And it can come at anytime your body is ready.

It can come at any time. I had my first one at ten months when I had my daughter and breastfed but when I had my son and also breastfed him I had one when he was three months. Just don't forget you CAN still get pregnant even if you are breastfeeding and even without having had a period. I know you probably know that but I have two grandkids who are 364 days apart because my son and his wife kinda thought maybe it was true that you don't get preggers when breastfeeding. LOL

Oh dear, since I nursed for about two years I didn't get it until two years later. Well that's my story have a good day.
I also knew other women even though they were nursing they still got their periods. Now don't fret it saves monies on those napkins, tampons and what have you.
Oh yeah I did the solid introduction way before the end of the two year period.

Between the breastfeeding and the Mirena IUD, I didn't resume my period until 2 months ago. DS is 2.5 years old. Boy was that nice! :)

Every woman is different though, so YMMV.

My daughter was 6 months old when I got my period back. I also was breastfeeding her, and by this point I had introduced solids.

if not breastfeeding, return of menstrual flow is expected within 8 weeks after delivery,
if breastfeeding, menstrual return is expected in 3-4 months
in some women, no menstruation occurs during the entire lactation period,,,
probably ur one of those women,,,=)
