They say negative numbers exist.

I say, you can't have anything less than 0.

For example: I have 1 apple in my hand, you take it away, so I have 0. That is nothing! How can you go below nothing? You can't!

Now, you reach in my hand to take another apple away. I do not have negative 1 apple, I still have 0. No amount of negative apples you give me will ever = 1 apple to replace it.

In accounting, they teach us of debts are -, profits are +

That is so wrong. If I owe someone $100, that is a POSITIVE $100 I owe. I just don't have it yet. I never have less than $0. I can have $0, but not less. I can work up to a POSITIVE $100 to pay the debt, leaving me back at $0, but no matter how hard you try, you can never have less than nothing at all existing.

How is less than nothing even possible? Can you imagine paying everyone with yoru negative $$$ that you don't have yet? How long will it take to make $1 if you give them ALL of the millions of -$$$ u don't have?

Opinions on this? Thanks

It may be to let you them know that you borrowed $100 but isn't it more correct to say that you owe a POSITIVE 100 to them?

If you can have negative money, then if you borrow $100, they are negative 100 in the hole. They will not break even till they get a positive 100 buckeroos.

There you have it! If you give them $99 positive dollars, they still have 1 more dollar, 1 more green bill just to make it back to 0.

They are still at negative $1, still in the hole, still with no money to spend, all because that there is negative money, my friends.

Once you give them the magical $1 to add to the 99 you borrowed, presto, they made it back to 0 once again.

Course, sure hope that extra negative $100 dollars you don't have isn't burning a hole in your pocket. I mean, if negative numbers can exist, they would be positive, since they represent a POSITIVE number of things that you can count, right?

Negative numbers, by existing, by definition, turn into positive & countable things.

You can have negative quantities because numbers are relative.

For one example: in mapping linear motion your default starting point would be zero...motion forward would be positive...and motion backwards would be negative.

The negative could mean many different things but basically the opposite.
for example when an object is moving it can show direction of the movement, ( the ball was going 3m/s to the east so -3m/s would represent west)

another example like you said about owing money. when u make calculations u do it in positive but the negative symbol informs you that the money was borrowed)

etc.....

so its just to let us know the opposite of whats happening

Try another career.
Painting could be a good choice.
Try astronomy, I’ve seen you have what it takes, too.

On second thoughts, accountants are notorious for making money disappear. There you have, you’ve found out how to do it.
You’ll be a good one.

Ever heard of sets of numbers? Naturals… real… remember?
