It doesn't surprise that Mike D. brought up race, even though so far everyone who answered this question opposing immigration, did not
mention a damn thing about race or skin color. And quite frankly, it pisses me off. What also chaps my a s s is when folks say crap like "we're all immigrants". Humor me, who is this "we"? Because I'll tell you right now, it sure as hell isn't me. An immigrant is a person who
moves to a FOREIGN country. Foreign being the key word here. I was born in America so that makes me American. Just because my ancestors immigrated here don't mean diddly $hit.
Some of my ancestors were left handed, does that make me left handed as well? If you must know, I am indeed right handed. Could it be, that maybe I'm NOT any of my ancestors? Some food for thought, why don't some of you jackasses dig in?

That is something I can't understand as well. I am living in UK for 2 years and even though everybody is very polite with me, I have seen horrible things done to other foreign people (people that speak English, don't have any benefits, and are trying to help the country instead of ruining it).
I believe, there must be a group of foreigners that actually don't respect other cultures and as a consequence they don't care if they ruin or disgrace the country that accepted them. But that doesn't mean, every foreigner is guilty for all the bad things that are happening to UK or other immigration countries. I think it is easier to blame immigration.
My country is a country that is having a lot of immigration, and even though I don't like to see foreigners begging on the streets and stealing, I am not going to blame them for the country's state. As I know there are so many immigrants that are doing jobs that are not pleasant and no one would do them, for all the money in the world.

I think most people are up in arms over illegal immigrants not legal immigrants.

It breaks down like this:

1) Your first act in this new country is to break the law by entering illegally.
2) Acting like a bunch of bullies (yeah try to send us back).
3) They appear to only be here for the $$$$$ and don't really want to be part of America.
4) Take social services they did not pay for.
5) Lower the wage base.
6) Since they are illegal there is no way to control there numbers.
7) Make a mockery of the immigrants who actually try to become citizens the legal way.
8) Jam their children into schools that are overcrowded to begin with.
9) Have more children then people living here.

So these are some of the preceiptions people have of them.

Because most of the people have never been in this situation and they don't have a clue how it is when you have to leave your country for a better life. Of course not all of the immigrants are thieves and dirty. Hundreds of them just want to gain some money and offer to the country. Lots of civilisations and cultures are built on immigrants. There wouldn't be international and ethnic cuisines for example!

Because a lot off them are here to reclaim benefits etc, they do not or will not speak English, they work for peanuts a lot of the time illegally thus putting English people out of work, Enoch Powell was right, immigration should have been stopped a long time ago, there is just not enough place for the whole of the 3rd world in England, they are not trying to get up in the world they are pulling our country down to their level. Sorry to sound harsh but if it does not stop the boat will sink and all of us with it. We should adopt the Australian system, if the immigrant does not work he goes back where he came from, NOT on benefits.

Population is becoming a big enough problem and with more people coming over the facilities that are running out are given to people with no right to be here. I don't have any problem with immigrants myself, this is just a common argument.

It is not immigrants in general that people don't like. It's specifically immigrants who enter our country illegally, take up as much as 75% of the population in some states, & then demand that we change all of our ways for them - they want everything to be bilingual so that they don't have to learn the language, they want rights even though they're not citizens, they expect legal protections even though they have no rights here, etc. It's disgusting. I single out the Hispanic immigrants. I'm an immigrant myself but an Asian one.

I can tell you - there is only one group of immigrants who are practically INVADING America, only one group of immigrants who demand the country adapt to them & not the other way around, & it's the illegal immigrants from Mexico, & it's them that no-one likes. Something one must understand when moving to another country, permanently or seasonally, is that you are expected to adapt to the country you move to. Not the other way around. You learn to speak English, you learn to obey American customs, & you follow American law; we should not have to learn Spanish for you, we should be not be subjected to your culture & customs invading our educational system & neighborhoods & politics, we should not change our laws for you.

Bottom line: Americans & legal immigrants do not want to & should not bend in any way, shape or form to accomodate people who venture to move to a country & try to order it to accomodate them. If I had it my way, we'd erect a wall across the ENTIRE border, deploy far more border guards, & give them a shoot-on-sight order for illegal immigrants trying to come here.

Unless you are a Native (original people) everyone in this country is an immigrant, some forcibly so. The ones doing the finger pointing are the ones that started the decline of this land in the first place. They don't look at THEIR past and misdoings and are QUICK to blame another culture and ethnic group for problems in society today. If people would take a minute and look at the numbers and history this would be apparent.

Because they are here illegally. Why do you hate thieves, rapists, and murderers? The same reason. They break the law. They take away work from legal residents by working for cash at ridiculous wages. They not only disregard our immigration and taxation laws, they also litter, drive without licenses and insurance, and drive drunk. There have been several cases here locally where a drunk illegal immigrant caused an auto accident that killed a legal resident. To top it all off, after not paying taxes they apply for and receive aid from the government that is payed for with the legal residents' tax money.

because some time a few of immigrants do something bad, and then the people think that "all immigrants" do bad things.
