Why do people in the Middle East hate Americans?

The Middle East region has been a focal point of much anti-American sentiment in the latter decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, often blamed on specific US policies in the region, particularly its close relationship with Israel. The term Great Satan, as well as the chant "Death to America" have been in continual use in Iran since at least the Iranian revolution in 1979. Really, anti-americanism in most of the Middle East is rooted in both fact and stereotypes of Americans. The Pew Research Institute probed deeply the stereotypes of westerners in the Middle East. While more than 70% of middle easterners identified more than 3 negative characteristics of the Westerner stereotype, the three strongest were selfish, violent and greedy. Few had positive opinions of Westerners, but the strongest positive stereotypes were devout and respectful of women. Because a portion of their opposition to us is rooted so deeply in bigotry coupled with the fact that many Americans are also guilty of bigotry against the middle east makes the road to peace a bumpy two-way street. If we don't understand them and they don't understand or condone our lifestyles here all we'll get is a big, ugly political quagmire.

Maybe because of American interference in the Middle East. And maybe they don't like the way the American government favors Israel and Saudi Arabia over the other Middle Eastern countries. If you study Western history and see how the European and American government/monarchs have treated the Middle East then maybe you would know the answer. To answer your question I would say because the Middle Eastern people (except Israel and maybe Saudi Arabia) are tired of the Western world interfering with their everyday life. One of the main reasons why the West won't leave the Middle East alone is because they have a massive amount of the worlds oil, which is sad because there are similar situations going on in Africa and Asia where the people actually want Western help but I don't see the West trying to help these people and liberate them, I wonder why.............

I'm sure that the phenomenon of Americans being disliked is not confined to the Middle East. Look at the damage Americans have done around the world, starting right at home with the genocide of their indigenous inhabitants, and then the record continues with the Philippines, Japan, Germany, Korea, Vietnam and now Iraq. If Americans would curb their killer instincts and started to be a civilised people, the attitude toward them around the world might change. It would take some time, though.

The same reason we hate them. That is what we have become conditioned to, they from an early childhood, us in the last 5 or 6 years, plus we support Israel whom they despise for whatever reason.
