These are totally different cars, totally different driving experiences. A 996 Turbo, in my opinion, is the best car that Porsche has ever made. The handling, power, and true on road performance is second to none. The Cayman looks cool, but it is nothing more than a hardtop Boxster. Not much there in the "thrill" department. I recently sold an '02 Turbo with 36k miles for $67,700. Wholesale book on a 2002 Turbo is $57,250 for average condition. So, the Turbo is well worth it.

911 turbo hands down. Theyre fast, more prestigious, more fun to drive, and theyre easier to drive. IMO theyre pretty much the best value on the market. Ive driven both cars in question, and i liked the turbo more (it was even an 02, it was my neighbors, who bought the car not too long ago, in very very similar circumstances, bouth 30k on the clock used, 60ish K).
I highly suggest joining the porsche club of america after purchasing one or the other. they have drivers education events and all kindsa races and social events that are a blast. I highly suggest the drivers Ed. Youll learn what your car can actually do, and its a total blast.
and to the dealer: which dealer do you work at? I live in dallas, and purchased my old 996 C2 from a dealer there. The 911 turbos are some of the most refined cars porsche has ever made, but in the big picture, hardly the best. they dont have the character of other models. Theyre just too tame, and not scary enough to drive. this is why i drive a GT2 :)
To the people below me:
and there is no neck snapping boost lag. Hell, if it werent for the sound, it would be difficult to tell the car wasnt NA. the powerband is very linear. the OLD turbos (like my 930) are a whole different story, but the 996s dont have that issue.
and under your logic, why buy anything nice? You can survive in a cardboard box. Why buy a house? Why eat good food when it will just make you fat? Ramen is only 10c a pack!
And FYI, there are things called racetracks, where there isnt a speedlimit. and even on the streets, theres no law about how fast you get to said speed limit.

Dont listen to RainKing he is a nut case. The turbo will offer a way more thrilling drive experience. First it has about what 440bhp. The cayman has about 280bhp if anything u should get the Cayman s. But that turbo it a certified super car. You will get more bang for your buck and your are sure to like it better. And 30k miles for a porshe aint bad at all. and for 60k thats a bargain, brand new it was probaly in the 90-115k region depending. Listen the cars will handle just as good as the cayman (if not better) and the straight line perfomance has set the benchmatk for all sports cars in the price range Dude its a no brainer. Dont trust me tho go to car and driver.com and read the spec and reveiws yourself. BUY THE TURBO

Never get a turbo that isn't under warranty. You are asking for a headache. The Caymans are easy and fun to drive. Plus it won't be beat from the previous owner. No matter what they say, a turbo 996 with 30k has been through its paces.

The Cayman will hold it's value better for a while, people shy away from used turbos, they can be hand grenades. They are also awesome cars. So if you want to hustle and have the cash for repairs get the turbo. If you want the safety of a warranty and less depreciation go with the Cayman.

It really depends what you want to do. The Viper will turn the most heads and will absolutley blow your mind with it's power, but it is a car you only want to drive for a good time. The 911s wil make the best daily driver, and the turbo the best track car. If it were my money, there would be a bright red 2008 Viper SRT10 in my garage.

Two different cars, as has been stated already. Do you need an SUV, or do you want a sports car? The Cayman does offer much better performance than most SUV's, but it won't come close to the 911. You are going to have to decide what you really need.

60k sounds a bit too good to be true on an '02 Turbo. That aside, I've driven both and the Turbo is definitely the better car (assuming you don't mind the neck-snapping boost lag).

if both are considered a good price.. the 2002 will hold its value better.
totally different vehicles with totally different uses...
personally you'll get bored of the turbo within a year and the cayman will be more functionable...
