I think we are poised to be a power, but it is the handlers that want to do things the "American" way that are the problem. They think it's possible to buy respect and success. We need people who can build a team that can compete in the world arena, people who understand the sport from the ground up. I'm 46 and have followed soccer since 1975. I would certainly like to see the day when we are at least on equal footing with the world.

Most people here don't watch soccer, and don't care about it. There are a lot of kids that play it, but they are miniscule when compared to the kids playing baseball, American football, and basketball. Funding for soccer at schools is remarkably less than the sports I mentioned as well.

You've gotta understand, most of us have been pondering whether real football (the tackle kind) would ever catch on in the rest of the world.

The general consensus so far has been no, but there's still hope. They had some big guys from European countries chucking kegs on the World's Strongest Man competition. I don't see what's stopping them from donning helmets and running full speed at some skinny ball carrier.

I think eventually soccer will grow more and more and become a bigger sport here in the US. There is no telling when or if we will ever reach the level like that of Germany, Portugal, etc, but I'm positive the US will become MORE of a threat and will hopefully have a better chance in future tournaments. We'll just have to wait and see...I'm keeping my hopes up :)

of course they'll, it's only matter of time, right now USA is almost the best in every sport, so when people start to watch or interest more about soccer, no doubt they will be, at least they could reach English level.

yes its like anything its only a matter of time. football is going in the right direction. although i don't agree with the media circus that follows BECKHAM he will attract a lot of attention, and this will have a positive action with the kids.

IT IS ALSO A SAD DAY WHEN FOOTBALL NEEDS A CLOWN LIKE BECKHAM TO PROMOTE IT.
