you cant install vista by using a upgrade... you can try installing xp with your friends disk and then try upgrading to vista but you might run into the problem that it has to be activated before you can upgrade and if you used his oem number you might have problems getting it activated

If you install and illegal copy of XP, which is any copy already installed and activated, first you won't be able to activate XP and secondly the Vista upgrade will be useless, I would return it and buy the full version. There are no shortcuts with Vista, if you try to cut corners it's not gonna work for you, sorry.

Fat chance! You would have to have a legit copy before you could install the upgrade. I would take it back and get the full version!
Buscit, what part of upgrade dont you understand?
THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF VISTA! THE UPGRADE AND THE FULL VERSION! YOU CANT INSTALL AN UPGRADE UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EARLIER VERSION OF WINDOWS INSTALLED!

if u are using windows vista and your system's Hardware fulfil the requirment of vista you dont need any other operating system
