It depends on what you are looking for. You have gangsta rap, conscious rap, crunk music, etc. Here's a few of my favorites to start off:

Outkast
T.I.
Kanye West
Common
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Jay Z
Naz
Tupac
Kelis
3 6 Mafia
Erykah Badu
Ludacris
Clipse
Pharrell
The Game
Cee-Lo
Lil- Jon
Lupe Fiasco
Project Pat

There are tons and tons more, these are just some artists that I like and I'm sure I left off some that I love.

If you're new to hiphop, you should start mainstream and work your way to the grittier music

Here's some easy listen albums that you might like:
T.I. - Urban Legend
Kanye West - College Dropout
Lil' Kim - La Bella Mafia

Maybe try Missy Elliott too. For some real hiphop you want 90s Jay-Z, Nas, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G...

Also listen to these classics from Dr. Dre - 2001 and Chronic.

Eminem, first 2 or 3 release are quite good, so is Dr Dre and Snoop Dog and stuff like that. If you don't mind French lyrics Mc Solar is cool.

First off, Rap has no "singers" Talking in rhymes is not singing. Second, 90% of rap is total crap. How can you call it music? So much good"real" music out there, and you waste your time with (c)rap?

For real good Hip-Hop you have to go back to before it was all b*tches and hos. Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, and others from the start of hip hop. Now it has no substance and its all about how much money they make, and how they buy stripers and crappy stuff like that.
