Yep. But one important quality an umpire needs is experience. And only time provides that.
One of the best umpires today, Simon Taufel, who has won the Best Umpire award 3 years in a row now, is just 36years of age.

I'm an umpire, I'm 18 years old.... I can tell you, its harder than it looks .... and no we don't dive, catch, hit the ball ...nor match fix ....well i havent :P
But yeh generally some young people find it hard early on so they quit .... but im sticking to my guns, its still my first season .. but give me some time lol
And the older umpires generally have tons of experience, after one season I'm not expecting to reach international level ... it will take time. And there are so many laws to cricket, referring Rugby seems easier, except for the constant running haha
Younger umps maybe able to judge better, but its knowing the knowledge of ALL the laws to the game and applying those laws and controlling the spirit of the game is key to being an awesome umpire.
I have not reached all the above yet but one day I hope too
Thats why time is of essence, hence making umpys old lol
thank-you for your time

umpires must be old. because younger umpires while umpiring, are very eager to bat (or) to bowl (or) to field (or) to keep (or) to match fix.
