This has been a matter of debate for centuries. There is more involved in this than having the sexual equipment of a male. There is the courage, both moral and physical to stand up for beliefs, protect the family and society as a whole. Cultural roles for males has always been that of a protector. We are built to take punishment, strength for combat and the psychology that goes along with it. Even this is guided by intellegence and discretion. We might harm another for threatening our family, but it is not ok to harm the family in the same manner. Now in the modern age, the aspects of combat have changed to be more intellectual in nature. If you cannot adapt beyond the physical, then you become a criminal. So to go along with this is the aspect of providing for a family, being there to assist with child rearing, assisting our mate in meeting daily living requirements-this has become more difficult as time passes into the modern age. We are discouraged from expressing emotions, and yet are seen as insensitive if we don't express emotion. It is to be conflicted and still be sane. Some philosophers believe that one doesn't become a man until they have experienced significant pain in their lives and learn a sense of responsibility as a result. I think in the end, it is the sense of responsibility that truely defines a man and separates a man from the boys.

True Man is the state of humility, which is the origin of the word "human"; it is the condition of humbleness, nonassertive, non-aggressive and non-haughty. Anything else is a form of "emasculation", i.e. arrogance, aggression, self-righteousness, and man as an object of worship or obsession with the "Rambo Mentality". True Man is dead to the "self" and transfixed upon that which is outside the self, focused on the world and others, and is "selfless" and "self-sacrificing". This is True Man, as well as True Woman.

v.good question.. thx God there's still someone searching on this :)

well, from my sitiuation as a young woman ; here's how i find a man is a MAN

The Man, is the one who will be here whenever i need him to be-without asking, who is strong enough (not phisicaly) to stay beside me when everyone else didnt!.. whom i will never need to use my POWERFUL "MASK" whenever i am beside him..
who will never prefer a chic rather than a friend!

a Man is sometimes strong ,others weak (a HUMAN ha!) but he knows when he can reveal about his weakness and when he shouldnt.
On the personal side, a man is the one who makes me feel my feminine, he's the one that i'll never feel lonely again as long as he's alive.. the one who turns my weakness to strength..
the one that i will never be shy to tell any of my deepest secrets and who is never shy to do the same..

well hope this is helping ... ;)

A man is defined by his actions and his words. To 'be a man' and 'a real man's man' are different guidelines. The first denotes someone who is desiring to be seen as a strong type. The second denotes someone who can be given as an archtypical man. The first represents your father, brother, uncle, etc. The second is more like James Bond, Robin Hood, John Steed, etc. These are men who exemplifiy all the best in men. Strength, intelligence, heroism, genteel, courteous. To 'be a man' is to act in an upright way, to imitate the archtypical figures. To 'be a man's man' is to exhibit these chracteristics.

I have been told a number of times.Your a real man.I have faith in myself, totally, do not doubt myself. have confidence, I do not have a need to prove myself to anyone at all.never back down from anyone, stand up for what you believe in. never hit someone first.be yourself, not what people want or expect.even if you have to be alone. My mother told me that if you don't have something you would die for then you really don't have anything to live for.never put yourself down.never let others put you down.live for right now not yesterday or tomorrow.I always help out the ladys.and personnaly I have the spirit of God with me .guiding and directing me and helping quite a bit.also when you know where you going people will help you or get out of your way.Peace
