It isn't just the US government that stresses over it; it's also the United Nations and the EU.

There is something that people should take into consideration about nuclear power. Although it may be a wonderful friend to mankind in providing electricity, not to mention the negativity of the 'other' which can be turned into a warhead, it is also very dangerous to mankind.

I suppose you could say the scientists of the US and Russia are the most experienced. Many of the controvercies between the U.S. and Russia were because of the power struggle between the two nations; and much of it over nuclear (atomic) power.

What the long story boils down to is that both nations wanted to be right about everything and each nation wanted to be known as the one who would dominate the world. At that time, it was just noted as United Soviet Socialist Republic. The 'cold war' had begun with itchy trigger fingers on the button to launch...we were that close.

Many of todays people do not understand the history of it. You had to be a baby boomer, or before...to understand the stress the citizens of each nation had gone through at that time. Between President Eishenhauer and President Kennedy, the U.S. got Russia to 'stand down their missiles,' that were actually ready to launch...and we then entered peace talks.

So, now when people talk about Nuke power for nations across the globe, the two nations who have been at this the longest plus the United Nations, try to keep everyone without. It's an extremely dangerous power to acquire...and the damage of the explosion or nuclear accident can be devistating not only in millions of lives lost, but of what the capabilities of something like a nuclear winter can create. That type of war is too devistating to imagine and life as you know it now, would not exist. Everything would be filled with radioactive contamination and you could not consume anything. It is a contamination you cannot see, feel, taste or touch but it is in the air as raidoactive particles that can penetrate anything or anyone. If exposed, a person would only last about a week then die from radiation poisoning... and that type of death is too horrible for anything. It leaves a path of death for everyone and the only form of species that is ammune is the cockroach.

I don't know if you've ever watched the movies of the testing the U.S. and Russian military made showing the actual explosions and testing of these weapons. Sometimes people as close as one mile away will be instantly incenerated from the heat alone. Nothing...but nothing is left standing...it's fried. Check your local library and see if they have it to rent. Most libraries do rent videos. I gurantee you, that once you've seen it, you'll completely understand 'why' the U.S. (or Russia) would never want to resort to that type of attack.

Russia also had a nuclear accident with one of their plants in Chernobile. A complete meltdown and even the animals in the area died...and that was just their reactor for creating electrictiy... and only one. They had much to suffer..contaminated water supplies and food..they went through hell.

There are really only two countries who know exactly what to expect and how to control the unexpected. They've studied it for over a half a centruy and know what that power is capable of.

So, that's why everyone wants this world disarmed of nukes...and their trying to get more control out of nuclear power. But sometimes???, it does escape and when it does, it's not pretty.

Because Iran is enriching uranium to 90% weapons grade rather than 30% power plant grade. Iran doesn't need 90% enriched uranium if they are only running power plants as they claim.

So if they have 90% weapons grade material, then that means only one thing...........they intend to produce nuclear weapons. And who is the likely target of those weapons? Israel. And who is Israel to the U.S.? They are our most loyal friends. That is why we have a problem with Iranian nuclear power.

Also, Iran is a state sponder of Islamic terrorism. So that would also make the world nervous about them obtaining nuclear weapons. And if push comes to shove, Iran will lose those powerplants before they have a chance to enrich that fuel. So they'd better come to grips and toss their current leaders out, or they will be bombed out. Make up your mind!

Because Iran has shown it's total disregard for human values, human life and International treaties. Don't forget Iran has Ignored treaties and taken hostages, Killed off the majority of their populace in a bloody war with Iraq, told inspectors [whose only job was to verify they were not making bombs] to take a flying leap.

history has shown time and again the Iranian government is untrustworthy.

The issue between Iran and the U.N. Security Council (which includes the U.S.) is not about the peaceful use of nuclear power for electricity generation and never has been. The U.S. and the rest of the world is not opposed to Iranian "nuclear power generation". Currently, in Iran, nuclear power plants are being constructed by Russia and are not yet on-line producing electricity. The world, through the U.N. Security Council, has "demanded" (via U.N. resolutions and now sanctions) that Iran not be allowed to "enrich" uranium (which can used to build nuclear weapons). Even though Russia has generously offered to supply the enriched uranium for Iran's nuclear power plants, Iran has refused this offer because it wants to possess its own nuclear weapons (and not just fuel to power its nuclear generating plants now under construction). The whole world (not just the U.S.) does "have stress" because Iran is hell-bent on obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran's president, Mr. I'minamoodforjihad, has repeatedly called for the destruction of the United States as well as, Israel. He is an avid believer in the imminent return of 'Mahdi', the 12th Imam, who will bring 'peace' to an out-of-control world. Launching a nuke and starting a war with Israel and the U.S. would help expedite the return of the ‘Mahdi’, (according to radical Muslims in Iran), as the world would be thrown into chaos as a result.

If Iran does goes nuclear (as she seems determined to do), Saudi Arabia, Egypt, U.A.E, etc. have all said that they will also seek nuclear weapons to counter what they see as a very dangerous and reckless Shia neighbor. It is interesting that none of those nations has felt the need to counter Israel's nuclear weapon (because they don't feel threatened by Israel and they know that Israel will only use them if its very survival is at stake). If those countries also go nuclear (who's to stop them?), it will start a chain reaction culminating in the nuclearization of the most volatile region in the world.

Chole_24:

You seem to be confused about the major differences between nuclear “power” used for electricity generation which uses LEU, or ‘low’ enriched uranium (about 3-4% enriched "reactor grade" Uranium-235) and the ‘highly’ enriched uranium (HEU) or “weapons grade" U-235, necessary for a nuclear bomb. LEU is not “explosive” and can not lead to a “nuclear winter” as Chole has suggested (that would require many nuclear bombs going off) . Reactor grade uranium is, however, very toxic to all life and the waste from nuclear ‘power generation’ must be disposed of very carefully.

The 1986 nuclear power plant disaster at Chernobyl was in the Ukraine (80 miles north of Kiev), not Russia. Both these separate countries were once part of the U.S.S.R. In that nuclear reactor ‘meltdown’, 30 people were killed immediately and 130,000 people within a 20 mile radius had to be permanently evacuated. Thousands have been affected by the radioactive ‘dust’ from the accident with the onset of early cancers and other serious medical complications. Again, ‘nuclear powered electrical generation’ is not the issue between Iran and the U.N. Security Council; it is about the ‘enrichment’ of uranium.

The issue with Iran has nothing to do with ‘nuclear power generation’ per say. Every nation is entitled to civilian use nuclear power generation and no one is trying to prevent Iran from generating electricity by means of ‘nuclear power”. The issue is whether Iran should be allowed to “enrich” uranium (used for fuel in the power stations) since the same procedure to enrich uranium slightly for power generation and enriching it much further (necessary for “weapons grade” material) is only a matter of degree (and requires some expertise). The U.N. Security Council has condemned Iranian enrichment which is totally unnecessary because Russia has already offered to sell the nuclear fuel Iran will need in the future for its power generation. (Note: the U.S. now purchases fully half of its nuclear ‘fuel’ for electrical generation from Russia which is converted from dismantled Russian nuclear weapons).

US is not stressed, we know Iran would love to kill us all. Iran is the one stressed. They know the US will not take it. Iran would have already used a WMD if they were sure they could get by with it. If they ever do, it will be a bad day at black rock for Iran, and they know it.

Maybe because the lunatic president of Iran said he will wipe Israel off the map...and Israel could be destroyed by a single nuclear missile.

Other than that...no reason.

The problem with Iran is that its leaders have publicly stated their desire to destroy other nations, primarliy Israel.

The production of weapons grade plutonium is possible with a nuclear power plant.

In other words, do you let a man have a gun if he is always making threats about shooting you?

Nope.

Never.

Good Luck!

Not every member in the U.S. Government. It's only Bush and his Zionist advisors and Zionist campaign donors who are just as paranoid with the 'nukes' in Iran as they were with the WMDs in Iraq. They probably imagine that they are living in Israel and are having unstoppable and escalating nightmarish panic.

The irony of it all is that Bush and his Zionists buddies forged the occupation of Iraq to kill Saddam and the Sunnis to give Iraq to the Shiites who were once exiled in Iran. And when these Shiites start killing our Troops who set them free and are becoming a real threat to Israel, Bush and the Zionists have started to panic and have need to find a scapegoat to put the blame. And the easiest thing is to show Iran as the culprit for helping the Shiites who were exiles during Saddam's rule.... to cover up the fact that it was really them - Bush and his Zionists - who are actually responsible for letting these deadly Shites mushroom in power and killing our Troops. We sent money to Iraq and the money must have been used by the Shiite Goovernment to support the al-Sadr Shiites - once exiled in Iraan - to buy weapons from their friends in Iran to kill esterminate all Sunnis and Americans. They certainly have Bush and his Zionist NeoCons to be thankful for the opportunity of revenge and to put Iraq and its wealth under the Shiites' total control.Guess these Shiites aren't too happy about Halliburton constructing pipelines that are pumping their oil to Turkey and Saudi, eh? And that's probably the reason why they started killing our troops and setting fire to the pipelines! And why aren't those in Turkey and Saudi Arabia sending their troops to Iraq if they have every intention of having the Iraqi oil piped to their kingdoms???
