Will an at home pregnancy test test for a tubal pregnancy? I honestly DON'T think I'm pregnant [I'm bleeding], but my boyfriend is worried because of something we read online and wants me to take a test anyways. So will an at home pregnancy test work, or do I absolutely NEED to go to a doctor to find out? Keep in mind I'm a broke college student.

Well thanks for all the help. The thing is that I just started birth control a few days after my last period. All of my friends warned that it would take a few days after starting the inactive pills for me to get my period, and that was exactly the case. I was like 3 days late. The first day I expelled a larger blood clot than normal, but I have been told my multiple people that this is normal, due to the fact that my last period was short, so I may not have "gotten everything out" and it was building up in my uterus. Anyway, I'm not going to try and explain it all. But I'm fine now.. Period is going normal, and I am not in pain. Like I said, I honestly don't think I am pregnant, but my boyfriend just wanted to make sure I was ok. I guess I will just take the test, considering they are only like $8 at Wal Mart. Thanks for the help, everyone!

If you are indeed pregnant (which it doesn't sound like) an at home pregnancy test would come up positive if it was a tubal pregnancy because you body is still releasing the hormone hCG (the hormone that a pregnancy test is designed to detect). But believe me. . .if you were having a tubal pregnancy, you would know. You would be in excrutiating pain!!!
On another note, if he is scared take a pregnancy test just to ease his and your minds. They are relatively inexpensive and accurate if the directions are followed. If you can't afford one, look up a local Planned Parenthood. They will do a test free of charge or for a small fee based on your income.
Hope this helped!

You can buy a pregnancy test at the dollar store for a dollar and they are just as good as the higher priced brands.
If you or your doctor suspect an ectopic pregnancy, your doctor will perform a blood test to confirm your pregnancy using a quantitative hCG test. Like a regular pregnancy test, the quantitative or beta hCG tests for the presence of human chorionic gonadotropinHuman chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone released into the maternal bloodstream by the developing placenta from about six days after the last period was due (about 22 days after the last menstrual period). Its presence can be detected in the urine by a home pregancy test and a positive result indicates pregnancy. Gonadotropins are used to treat infertility, hypogonadism and nonobstructive cryptorchidism. Often abbreviated to HCG.

This serial hCG level is an index number that can vary from person to person, since the doctor is more interested in ensuring that the value is doubling every two or three days to confirm your pregnancy. This test is also used to detect a miscarriage.

Generally planned parenthood will do a urine test for free as well as your local health clinic. No it cannot test for a tubal pregnancy. If it is you would know already, generally there is a lot of pain involved with those and you almost certainly results in the loss of that tube. If you are not late I don't see a reason to test other than for piece of mind. In the future if this is unwanted the health clinic can provide free birth control and condoms.

A tubal pregnancy still demands the pregnancy hormone to survive, so a pregnancy test will show positive if you are pregnant wether it is tubal or not.
And it doesn't sound like you are pregnant at all if you are having your period.

An hpt test can only test your hcg levels. If you're worried about a tubal pregnancy and think you might have one you'd better see a doctor ASAP
