I've always wanted to become a musician. My cousin works at a studio & writes songs there for people as well as training people for shows & is willing to help me out. I've been singing & playing the piano since I was 6 & a 1/2 years old.

Now that I'm in high school, I'm still very passionate about being a musician but I'm starting to lose interest and I am beginning to think about quitting. Everytime I try to practise singing. playing the piano, dance, writing songs or listening to new music for inspiration, I always get interrupted (I know they do that by purpose) by my family who of course lack encouraging and supporting me with my dream to become a musician. So like I said before, I think I should really quit because everytime I try to practise which is everyday, I can't becuase everyone around me keeps distracting me, nagging at me, annoying me & my mother keeps telling me off about my music & stuff.
Do you think I should quit? I know its funny but please don't laugh

You don't have to quit, just keep music as a hobby for now...when you get to college you can wait to declare a major and take some music theory classes. If you like them then pursue a degree in music and play for fun in college. If you find something you would rather do then major in that and keep music as a hobby. I don't think you should completely quit because music is a form of expression that can get you through some tough times...I have been playing guitar since I was 10 and have gone through periods where I wasn't at all interested in it and others where I couldn't put my guitar down.

I think your parents may be worried that you are trying to make a career out of music and putting it above other things in your life...at this point you should focus on school and continue your music even though you get no support from your parents...you don't play music for other people, you do it to express yourself.

The bottom line is, if you don't enjoy it don't do it. If you feel like it's a drag, then maybe you should just have a break from it. If it's meant to be, then it'll find a way to happen - later or in a different way. =D Find something that makes you happy instead of worried or down...

If you have lost interest, I would say the passion is gone, and music without passion is worthless.
