Despite what some have written Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales it does not include Northern Ireland as that is not part of the same land mass. The United Kingdom includes norhtern Island and all the dependancies of the UK i.e. the falklands, gibraltar, Isle of Man etc.

Wales is part of Britain, along with Northern Ireland, England and Scotland. It's not that they don't like each other, there are just cultural differences. I am English, but have grandparents from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They were all living in England at the time of their deaths, but still remained patriotic to the country of their birth.

Hello.

Britain (abbreviated form of Great Britain) refers to the combination of England, Wales and Scotland, so Wales is actually a part of (Great) Britain.

As other people have noted, I would imagine the intent of your question is the difference between England and Wales.

The dislike (as such as it exists these days) stems from the fact that Wales has, since Edward I, been subdued and ruled by the English, being incorporated as a part of England by the Statute of Rhudllan in 1284. The Welsh always have, quite rightly, thought of themselves as a seperate nationality (I always think of myself as English, not British).

There was a spate a while back of holiday homes in Wales being torched by radicals who felt that rich English people were forcing house prices out of the reach of locals and then leaving the properties empty for most of the year.......and that didn't help Anglo-Welsh relationships.

Other than that, the English and Welsh rub along pretty well together, until they play each other at rugby !!

Britain is the word used mainly when talking of the Island of Britain, the British Mainland. The people of Britain are called the British. Britain, the United Kingdom [UK] is subdivided into two 'kingdoms', that of Scotland and of England.

Wales is a Principality and has English Law. The people of Wales, the Welsh, are thought to be descended from the Ancient British with a mix of Romano-British and Irish blood. The race name for the Welsh is Brython, the Brythonic Celts, the British; [Breten].

It is not true that we Welsh dislike the English, we just ignore them and it's probably this which annoys them and causes them to accuse us of not liking them.

The word Welsh comes from an Anglo Saxon dialect and does not describe the people of Wales in anything other than meaning 'foreigners' - in other words, right from the outset, the English established the idea in their thick heads that the people of western Britain were foreign. How nuts is that?

The Celts [Welsh, Irish, Cornish, Scottish] their ancestors, arrived in Britain from c500BC. We Celts are not 'foreigners', but other Britons may very well be.

The Modern Welsh Language dates from the 6th century AD and is based upon 'Old Welsh' which was a British language widely spoken across the length and breadth of Britain.

The oldest official language in UK is Welsh. Go to any UK.gov website and you have a choice of English or Welsh.

Is this a question for British citizenship? Why should the Welsh like the Brits? In the flag of the Union they got left out - although it might have been difficult to incorporate the Welsh fllag. One should never forget that Wales was Wales before England was born.

Britain is England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the isles.

Wales actually is one of the lands of the Celts. They were driven there by the Angles and the Saxons 450 > 650.

They do have the original couture of this land with its language.

It is ironic that we call ourselves British when indeed it is only the Welsh and Cornish who really have that right.
