What is the Difference between Intel Duo Core 2 and Intel Dual Core Processor?

There are a lot of incorrect answers to this question, I guess people just figured it out however they found convenient.

Actually they are both available for desktops and laptops, and they are both dual core, but the Core 2 Duo is intel's upgrade to the Core Duo and has some architectural adaptations that increase its bus size, efficiency, and to some degree its clock speed as well.

The difference is not huge though, but neither is the price difference. That makes it a good idea to get a Core 2 Duo if buying a new computer, but no reason to kick yourself if you have a Core Duo, and an upgrade would probably not be worth the cost or trouble.

"DUAL CORE" is simply a generic term referring to any processor package with two physical CPUs in one. The Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo and in case oh AMD its Athlon X2 are all current CPUs that have dual cores in one package.

1. Intel Pentium D is the first set of Dual Core processors produced by Intel. It has two Pentium 4 Prescott cores put together in a single die with 1 MiB of Level 2 (L2) cache per core. No Hyperthreading

Pentium Extreme Edition is same as Intel Pentium D , but has Hyperthreading enabled, thus any operating system will see 4 logical processors (2 physical x 2 virtual cores)

Not efficient and use lot of power.

2. The Core Duo is Intel's first generation dual core processor based upon the Pentium M (a Pentium III-4 hybrid) made mostly for laptops (though a few motherboard manufacturers have released desktop boards supporting the Core Duo CPU), and is much more efficiently than Pentium D.

3.The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation , succeds Core 2Duo(hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs.

Though its speed (clock freq) is less as compared to Pentium D it has improvements in the processor's usage of both available clock cycles and power

Some New Core Duo processors will also include the ability to disable one core to conserve power.

4. A Quad Core Version contains 2 Core2Duo dies in one package.

Intel has dropped the Pentium name in favor of the Core architecture from its brand .

There's not really any. A dual core is a CPU (Central Processing Unit) wit two cores. Core 2 Duo is the Intel brand name for their dual core Processors. Same for Core 2 Quad and quad core. Quad core is a cpu that has 4 cores, Core 2 Quad is the model or brand name of Intel CPU's with 4 cores.

The Intel Core 2 Duo is the fastest.

Both chips have two cores. The Core 2 Duo is meant for desktop computers and the Core Duo is meant for notebook computers.

They are both based on the Pentium M chip. The Core Duo came first.

There are quad-core models available for desktop computers today.

You mean Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? Core 2 Duo is the newest line for consumer. Core Duo is a processor that has 2 cores. Core 2 Duo is a processors with 2 Core Duo, which make it 4 cores. They are both made for Desktops and Laptops. Core 2 Duo for laptop is codenamed Merom. Core 2 Duo for desktop is codenamed Conroe.
