Buy Made for ipod speakers dock..or random 2.1 speakers with dock and remote?

i have a 5g video ipod and my old home sound system was sold...now i have no speakers so what do you recommend...

It depends on what you want to use them for. Most of the inexpensive tiny speakers sound exactly like inexpensive tiny speakers (and you'll either need batteries or an AC outlet to make most them work at all, as very few models can serve as passive speakers). Most of the larger high-end iPod speakers are _just_ speakers, and really expensive. If you want decent sound that's semi-portable, I'd suggest dropping at least $80 on a portable boombox that has either a tape deck or a line-in jack, and get whichever adapter is required to hook your iPod up to it. Now, if you're planning to run straight off the iPod dock, keep in mind that it does not amplify the signal, so you'd need to get a mid-level or better set of self-amplifying speakers, at which point you're right about in the same range for going the boombox route anyways, which gives you the added bonus of being able to tune in a radio station if you need to, as well as being able to work with CDs and/or cassettes.
