I have 3 glo fish. They all seem to be growing normally. Then one fish developed a black spot on its side and now looks to be thinner than the other 2. It is also being picked on by the other two. I watched them "gang" up on this fish.

Could this fish have some disease or could the black spot be an injury for the other fish.

One more note, none of my other fish have developed any black markings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

To help your fish there are a few things you need to look at first. What are the water conditions in your tank like? Since the other two do not seem to be affected it could be black spot.

Examine your fish carefully. Gold fish are prone to Melanophore Migration It starts often with a paling of the skin followed by black patches on body, usually on back or sides of fish.

There is also black spot disease
Shows up as black spots or patches. This is a parasitic disease
, it is possible to reduce the incidence of the parasite by removing or reducing the intermediate hosts such as snails. This will disrupt the life cycle of this parasite. Copper Sulfate (CuSO4) applied to correct this disease. If you have snails remove them before treating the tank. Copper sulfate can kill snails.

Just keep an eye on your fish for the next couple of days. Gold fish usually don't turn black, however if the goldfish was raised or hatched in a pond with shubunkins or comets, this is possible since both are often black spotted.

Also remember Gold fish are prone to change color. this is perfectly natural for the fish. Be sure he is eating. The other fish could be picking on him because he is sick. Since we cannot see your fish, only you can make a decision as to what his symptoms really are.

If its a big spot, it's probably changing colors. Goldfish change colors over their lifetimes, and lots of people think there's something wrong with them. Your goldfish is probably just maturing. The black spot only means a fish is pregnant in certain kinds, not including goldfish. Not to mention that spot wouldn't be big or on the fish's gills. Kooler: There is such a thing as black ich, but as far as I know, it only affects saltwater tangs (aka surgeonfish)

Its not pregnant, they are egg-layers. Only livebearers get a black spot. It may be an ammonia burn.
