There is a scene where the family is hiding in the convent and I clearly remember that Christopher Plumer says that they will head to the mountains, and there is a shot of the mountains and a tomb with a cross...but now, that I saw the movie recently the grave was gone!!! Does anybody know if why they cut out this shot of the tomb with the cross? I remember it because it used to scare me a lot when I was a kid!! Did I dream this or are there more versions of the movie out there?!?!?!?

No. You didn't dream it. I know the grave and the cross you're talking about.

What has happened is the shot of it was cut out because they need to edit long movies to fit in a 2 or 3 hour time slot.
They remove only things that have little or no bearing on the plot of the movie.

I have seen them do this so many times. Here is the strange part though. I don't get this. In one of my favorite movies the scenes that are cut out differ from time to time depending on what station it airs on. I can watch it on one station and a certain scene has been cut so it will fit into a 2 hour slot. Six months later, I can watch it and this time, the scene is still there but a different part of the movie has been cut instead, which was in the movie on the other station just 6 months earlier!

I always thought that when stations receive these movies they are already edited to be aired. If that's true, then why do the parts that are removed not all the same?

I am perplexed but you don't need to be.
You didn't lose your mind. I know the scene you're talking about and it DOES exist.

Are you thinking about the time in the convent when Christopher Plummer talks to the younger man, Rolf, who liked the eldest daughter? Cause there is a headstone with a cross in that scene. I also remember one more, but I haven't seen the most recent release so I couldn't say for sure if it was cut out, I do remember it from the original though.

I know there is a part where Christopher Plumber's character is talking to that boy Ralph, and there are a few crypts with crosses on them in that scene. Could that be what you are referring to. I don't recall there being a mountain scence with a tomb and a cross.

Of course in today's age of political correctness and people's fear of offending minority groups it would not surprise me.

I can't get over the fact that in the Grease Mega Mix they cut out some of the words in Greased Lightening. Or that they want to put a higher recommended viewer's rating on movies that contain smoking.

Did you see it on TV or was it a DVD, VHS, etc? If it was on TV for example; they have 2 or 3 hours for the program and they do cut some of the scenes because they have to have a certain amount of time for commercials to pay for the time. I've noticed scenes cut in those instances all the time. The Sound of Music was a very long but good movie.
