If you have a local bead or craft store in your area, that's always a good place to start. Make a list of what you need before you go as it's easy to get carried away and spend WAY too much money on things you don't need. (It's like being in a candy store).
If you don't have a store locally, a good online resource is:
http://tinyurl.com/29gupm
They have just about every bead imaginable.
You might also want to consider taking a local beading class. If not, you can probably check a book out of the library that will .teach you the basics.
Basic jewelry making is not hard to learn. It just takes a bit of practice.
One warning! Jewelry making can become addictive. :-) Best of luck to you.

Well yes making jewelry is most certainly art but no it isn't easy. Well it depends. I started making hemp and bead jewelry for fun and started selling my stuff at school in my senior year. I thought I would love to be a jewelry designer and have taken a course in it but there is A LOT more to making jewery with metals and stones and clasps and links. There is a lot of science and chemistry in it, there are a lot of tools, some are required, sometimes you need to find something around your house to use as a tool. There is a lot of soldering involved, There really is so much to it that I didn't know. while I learned a lot in my class through pennfoster online, I decided it will remain a hobby. if you want to make a carreer of it, you need to go to school, a lot of practice and experience, a lot of time and concentration, it's rather expensive to start, all the materials you need, you need to be a jewelry technician first typically before you can make it as a designer. There really is quite a bit to learn and work to get good at it. so to answer your questions: Yes a know a little about making jewelry Yes it is hard Yes there are a lot of tools and materials Yes it is very expensive Yes it is hard on your eyes Unless you just stick to the arts and crafts stuff like hemp and beads and threads. That is just plain fun and thereputic but anything you sell to your friends you'll most likely put into supporting your hobby.

its all acording to where you live, in the us, you can get stuff at walmart, joanns fabrics, michaels crafts, hobby lobby, and thousands of small shops plus tons of places on line. look up bead shops on line, they will have everything and books to give you ideas. plus there are several magazines that have beadwork instructions, such as button and bead, beadwork, and others. I am sure you can find some instructions on line as well, its fun making jewelry but very hard to compeat with stuff imported from china and india. Ive been a jewelry artist for 20 years.

If you are in S'pore, there is this shop in Tanglin shopping centre on the 3rd floor that sells jewellery making tools and accessories and semi precious stones. The person also teaches for free if you buy from her.

Depends on where you are. You can try craft stores like Joanne's or Michael's. They are also available online or by mail order. You can find their addresses or websites in magazines like Beadwork, Bead & Button, etc...
You might also see if there is a club or association for gemologists/jewelers in your area. Enter keywords on the internet like "gemologist", "jeweler", "lapidary and mineral society"
