Actually Intel's newest series of Core 2 Duo processors run cooler and take less power to run than AMD's dual core processors.

Oh and noticing what Bala said. AMD Sempron is crappy. It's like an Intel Celeron. They are budget processors with less features. Such as less cache....

in a laptop though an amd processor would be better.

AMD Athlon is not too good compared to INTEL processors.. But AMD Sempron is really good, But the release of DUO2 by intel has pulled down its chances.. But AMD suits laptops as they dont produce too much of heat compared to Intel.. My friend is working with AMD, and he's not much satisfied with its performance.. But definitely costwise AMD is cheaper than Intel..

Have a nice time..

Intel Core 2 Duo is 65nm. AMD is just not catching up to Intel and they are trying to release a 65nm pretty soon. While Intel is already planning to release 45nm processors :)

Not exactly. AMD innovations are not far from that of Intel. Besides Intels new duo platform is somehow more stable than AMD's x2. But price wise AMD gives more for per dollar, that's why low end machines by branded pc uses AMD more than Intel.

We've had good luck with AMD chips at our house. The only thing I know is that AMDs run cooler in laptops than Intels. Intels need more fans and use more power.
