IT wouldn't surprise me, but I wouldn't put money on it. Because WE are here, the possibility of intelligent life exists, however unlikely. The universe is so big, there must be at least a few other civilizations out there. But since the speed of light is so small in comparison with the size of the visible universe, and because of the unstable nature of civilization, I think it is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will ever be able to find and communicate with ET's.

If it ever does happen, because of the speed of light, it will take many decades or centuries to establish any meaningful dialog. so for the most part it would only be a novelty at first.

As a side note; I consider interstellar travel to be very nearly impossible.

There are well over 1 billion stars in our galaxy alone. You have to consider the fact that not all planet support life, but the odds are still great nonetheless. So yes, I do think there's highly intelligent life in the universe.

I would pray that contact with an advanced civilization would give our race HOPE, because if they can survive and not blow themselves up, then perhaps so can we. The next 100 years will be the most difficult for the human race.

"Other" intelligent life? You mean there's actually intelligent life on this planet already? Judging from what I see here and interacting with people here in Toronto, that's definitely arguable.

Remember, kids, like drugs, say "no" to Toronto.
