Biochemistry by Stryer
It is actually interesting to read and highly recommended at my university. I still find it relevant for 3rd year undergrad, but it is also very accessible with good diagrams.

the book i used is "The Organic Chemistry of Biological Pathways" by John McMurry and Tadgh Begley. this book does not cover much on molecular genetics but it has excellent figures explaining the detailed orgo mechanisms. Also, it's written by Cornell profs.

Another classic one is "Principles of Biochemistry" by Lehninger.

good luck

I love Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Biochemistry, 3rd edition. It is great for seeing the big pictures/overviews and for many details.

For more details, Harper's Biochemistry is excellent.

For really intimate info. and incredible color graphics I look to "Biochemistry" by Voet and Voet.
