Has anyone ever heard of the vitamin St. Johns Wort to help with trying to conceive?? I was talking to my mom earlier and she said that an ex g/f of my uncle was trying to get pregnant a few years back. trying for 12 years I guess! Well she took St. Johns wort to help and she got pregnant 3 months later! Has anyone else heard of this at all?? I know it is supposed to help with mood disorders and stuff but with conceiving? Do you think that it was just a coincedence or if the vitamin actually helped her?? Thanks!!

Uh, definitely not.

First, St. John's wort is not a vitamin, it is an herbal preparation containing a number of compounds that act as drugs.

Second, no, it has no effect on fertility. In fact, some evidence suggests it decreases fertility. Furthermore, its safety during pregnancy has not been established, and there is evidence (from animal studies) that it may have abortifacient effects. Because most people are not aware they are pregnant until a number of weeks later (or longer), any drug not safe for pregnancy should not be taken when attempting to become pregnant.

St. John's Wort is not a vitamin, it is an herbal mood enhancer. While no FDA proof has been released, doctors believe that St. John's Wort cancels out birth control. I have taken St. John's Wort for years and it works well for mood problems and anxiety. The story of it causing a quick pregnancy has to be 100% false. I never once got pregnant while being on it. I began to take it on and off and I'm not even sure it cancelled out my birth control.

St. johns wort in small doses isn't a controversy for being pregnant. additionally Prozac has been shown secure for being pregnant (I talked to a psychiatrist approximately this). St. Johns wort will advance prozacs effectiveness. additionally prozac is precisely an antidepressant no longer AN ANTI PSYCHOTIC. Take yer meds and luxuriate on your toddler next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days!!

NO! All herbal supplements are not recommended before, during nor after pregnancy. Due to the FDA has no regulation over these and we don't know how they can affect a person. Take prenatal vitamins to increase your iron and folic acid.

Also, make sure you are having sex while you have ovulated. If you are regular use an ovulation kit to make sure you are ovulating. You can then take this info to your Gyno and if or if you are not ovulating they can further do tests to see what is going on.

So NO to herbal supplements before, during or after pregnancy. Make sure the vitamins are prenatal vitamins and not a multivitamin. There is a difference, some vitamins are not recommended during or as you are trying to conceive.

Good luck and I hope this helps

No. St. John's Wort is not the most effective treatment for anything. I do not recommend it. See your doctor.
