Since cricket is a game of uncertainties as has been proved on many occasions, nothing can be predicted for sure about the outcome of a tournament in advance.
While in current form Australia and South Africa are hot favourites what will determine the outcome of the world cup is not either the current form or past form, but the form when they
play matches in the world cup. It does not take much time to change the form of any -player
Hence at this point the fair prediction is that any of the top 8 teams stand a chance to win the world cup.

judging by current form you would have to say it would have to be between south africa or australia. south africa are coming off a clean sweep of india and a decisive 3-1 series win over pakistan (2x10 wicket wins & 1x9wicket win) but their lack of quality spinners may cost them. Australia are probably the firm favourites despite their 2-0 loss in the final against England, one only has to remember that they have been on top of the ICC rankings since its conseption in 2002
