conversation and confirming that we still love each other.

This, after nearly 56 years. Can anyone, in honesty, top this?

Over the years, I've kept in contact, as best I could, (by phone), just to "keep in touch", never realizing we'd ever be able to talk openly. (I've been divorced 20 years).

The day has been surreal...

Any similar experiences?

An important point I forgot--

When we met, we were NOT teenagers. I was 20; she was 22--no teen-age love affair...

I am of the opinion that we as humans tend to give out heart away in pieces.

Loves will always have a place in your heart that even your spouse cannot fill....I'm not saying you still have the hots for someone else....just that the heart is easily given away

And when we date and fall in love....a place in our heart is filled by that person...

Hope this make sense

Yes, If I only would have known how to retain it I would be a different person today. After 10 years I think seldomly of it and think what if i would have never moved away? Wanting to go back and at least open my voice and say I always loved even if my life has tooken me to a very far place and even if it could never go back it does wish to.

You never forget your first love because it was such an innocent and awesome thing to happen between 2 people for the first time. I hope you can get together and pick up where you left off.

First loves are always very strong. You are reminded of past experiences, can talk to one another about memories, etc. Give it a shot. It won't hurt.
