I hear Republican utter the words "Morals & Values". Do you believe that everybody has the same definition or "morals and Values"? If not should they be the same for all people? What I believe is important and proper may be completely different then you, right?

The definition of the Neocons morals and values sure never meets what their leaders in Congress all the way to President Bush are doing. I have to conclude that their morals include blatant lying, dishonesty, and malicious intent. In other words the Republicans can't be trusted.

"Morals and Values" is so incredibly vague, any politician can accuse another of having none. What "matters" is the accusation, the hint of impropriety -- that's "news."

However, I don't think it's true that essential morals vary so completely between different social groups. I believe the Golden Rule is found in disparate groups globally. So are the taboos against incest and cannibalism, prohibitions against murder and lying.

"Should morals and values be the same for all people?" is a very good question, one I'll bet that deontologist philosophers probably get paid (although not so much, I'll bet) to think about. One thing's for certain: Most people want all people to share THEIR values.

Exactly right..
and one must wonder if that is premise for an existence of a loving God? especially when we as humans have no absolutes other than the fact that we die.

your right may be my wrong and so on.....

and now the same can go for why everyone dosent define love the same way as everybody else..

who has the right definition to love, morals, our existence,
and more importantly why are we here and why do we die ?

when you start to see a chaotic culture spinning out of control
with no sense of direction
one must seek to answer these very valid questions,
and this ones a good start.

You can't define morals and values. They vary from culture to culture and from person to person. They are based on religion and personal beliefs. What I think is right may not be right in your eyes. This is a free country and everyone has the right exercise what they believe, as long as they are not hurting anyone, without any interference from government or anyone else. Totalitarian governments tell their people what their morals and values are, and even how to exercise them.

Shades of my old philosophy classes.......

"Morals" and "values" as referred to by politicians (who, for the most part [Reps AND Dems], have neither in my opinion.) are words that are meant to bring up certain feelings in those who hear them. They are "trigger" words, meant to make people think that whoever is uttering them actually HAS them. They have been used to justify everything from the execution of criminals to uncalled for "wars" (ahem....)

Do they have intrinsic meaning? I don't think so. I know they are not the same for all people! I am a very liberal Liberal, and I find my base for that in my morals and values. But, many people on this forum and in my life, have called me immoral and questioned my "values" if my thoughts on particular subjects differed from theirs.

I don't think anyone has the corner on this one; even Christians argue over the meaning of morality. There is no one set of "values" that is necessarily "higher" than another, unless it is the value of loving your neighbor as yourself! (But, you see, that, once again is MY opinion--[and that of Jesus, too--if you are a believer]--and is open to interpretation.)

True morals and values have nothing to do with any kind of rules, or propriety. True morals and values are all about Love, and kindness, and compassion, and the understanding that we are all one...with each other, and with God....and that separation is only an illusion. So the only thing that matters at all, to God, is how we treat each other. EVERYONE MATTERS!!!!!

C'mon, you know we can't function on moral anarchy. Religions for the most part have the same kinds of morals and there are way more similarites between religions regarding that than differences. And it's no coincidence how so many religions happen to consider the same things immoral -for common sense and practical reasons.

Read the 10 commandments. It's a good start when talking about morality.

Morals and Values are basically the same words but the Republicans are just making a point to emphasize their stand on crucial issues that they are conservatively good.

well there has to be a basic standard of this. Otherwise society wouldn't actually function well. Everyone already abides by a large number of unwritten rules and codes of conduct. So its never stated explicitly what these are defined as.
