Al Gore seems to be positive that there is global warming and that humans are causing global warming by burning fossil fuels. But, some scientists believe global warming is being caused by the heat coming from the sun. They say the sun is getting hotter. However, most people are uncertain that global warming is actually happening. Should we start riding bicycles? Will that stop global warming?

>Al Gore says there is global warming<
Al Gore also said he "won" the 2000 election, but that wasn't true either.

Moral of the story: don't believe everything Al Gore says

Honeslty global warming is not man's fault, but we are a big contributer to it. Believe it or not cow's flatulents produce more CO2 a year then human's excess burning of green house gases. Earth has gone through sevral phases of climate changes throughout its life.

I believe global warming is happening and we should take caution, but I don't think man is responsible. Think of it this way.. after the last ice age what have the glaciers been doing? Cooling off and freezing? No, they have been melting away a little each year. Or how about this. Back in the stone age when wolly mamoths and cave-men were around there was a giant ice age. There were absolutley no green house gases being burned like they were now.. so you would think the world would have stayed that way forever. But it gradually melted and then disappeared.. long before the technalogy and excess green house gas burning.

So basically no. I dont think man is responsible alone, but we are a contributer to it.

My history teacher pointed out a good point to my class the other day. He said, "global warming is happening, but the only reason it is so talked about and cautioned on today is because of the scientist's pay check." he also said, "back in the 80's the scientists had a theory that by the year 2000 we would be in a Global Freezing and we all would die. The 90's came and the scientists started to realize they weren't 100% accurate on their research.. so they said by 2010 we would be in a complete Global Warming and nothing would survive. The 2000's came and they are sticking to their story but they are saying it will happen within 100 years. So you can make your own opinion about that."

so before you believe al gore's theory you should take this into consideration.

and there are many ways we can help to elimate our contributing part; we could step up and find a cleaner and more efficient fuel for our cars, we can find new ways to do things.. like farming, ect., we as people can try to use less energy (which i doubt that will ever happen.. we are to involved in our high tech equipment to stop), and yes, bikes might help as well. Riding bikes everywhere would believe it or not solve two problems.. Obesity and Our Global Warming Contribution

The talk of the town is global warming. It is the thousand pound gorilla in the corner, or so we have been told. Global warming is supposed to be responsible for a number of natural maladies including the fact that some poor polar bears could not hibernate. Robert Kennedy wrote a nice piece about the warmth causing flowers to bloom and birds to come out in the middle of winter. He cited this as proof of global warming and said that this should help those who still do not believe. John Kerry told us that all reputable scientists are on board with global warming.

A couple of interesting things happened on the way to the global warming rally. First, Iceland is experiencing thick pack ice the likes of which have not been seen for decades. This is likely to cause a polar bear problem because the polar bears get on the ice and pieces of it break off and they end up in Iceland where they are promptly shot. Not good for an animal that is endangered. Nevertheless, the fact is it is colder there and they are getting thicker ice. Perhaps this will take up the extra water caused by Gore’s melting ice scenario and keep us from being flooded.

The second thing is that many scientists are bucking the trend and denying that global warming exists. I am sure they do not fit John Kerry’s definition of a reputable scientist, but they have done research and have come to different conclusions.

So this guy says that there is only speculation and hard evidence. He states that the UN’s information is bereft of anything that inspires confidence and says that according to their own finding we might be cooling, not warming. Why do you suppose Kerry’s reputable scientists did not point this out? Perhaps their research grants and jobs would go away if the truth were told. One thing is for certain, there is not enough evidence (in fact there is NO evidence) to support this idea of global warming and it is certainly premature to spend billions of dollars to fix a problem that might not even exist.

Say no to Kyoto and say not to increased spending (and certainly increased taxes to support) for global warming until someone can show proof positive. Let us hear the dissenting voices and let us enter into honest debate without all the politics attached. Let’s get to the truth for a change.

These things go in cycles. The world was hotter when Dinosaurs lived. Did they burn fossil fuel? When the Ice Age ended, what caused that, cavemen burning fossil fuel??? Maybe the Flintstones is true. LOL!

There's "global warming" on Mars, so I'm convinced it's just the sun. In 20 years when the sun burns a little less hotter, they'll be swearing it's a new ice age. I don't buy any computer model, you can program a computer model to show anything. And if your research grant is from an environmental group...how do you think the research is going to be slanted? When Sadam set the oil fields on fire in Gulf I , there all these computer models showing a new ice age as a result of the sun being blocked out. What happened? Nothing.

Fisherman can't fish in Iceland because of all the icebergs where global warming is "bucking the trend" according to environmentalists. What trend?

LOL! Good one Bobby Joe! I hope everyone catches your sarcasm.

How dare you attack Saint Al this way! He buys carbon credits (from his own company) to offset his carbon use so he's good and you're bad. I'm sure he'd sell you some and then you could be good like him and feel better about the end of the world. I've always found it an odd coincidence that the very first Earth Day organized in the US just happened to fall on the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin's birth. Not to say that most environmentalists aren't sincere but I question the goals of their leaders since they seem so different from what they claim to believe. And inimical to the values in the US Constitution as well, i.e. freedom of speech as long as we like what you're saying, etc. The Left has never seen a socialist or communist they didn't admire and the Greens are part of the Left so that may be a natural progression or they may just want the same things. Central planning and control at the expense of individual liberty. One supposedly for the benefit of the people thru the State, the other for the benefit of the planet thru the State, but the tactics and propaganda of the AGW movement are familiar somehow.

There is global warming but it will be very hard to stop. Al Gore does not provide any good solution other that the US should cut its emissions. The only way you will have success in cutting down on Global Warming is if you get China and India to cut their emissions too which they wont. Even if the US cut their emissions it would have little to no impact, because India and China’s emissions are ever increasing, but that is all right by Al Gore if China and India pollutes just as long as it is not the US.

Cows produce a lot of methane gas, which is believed to be a major contributor to global warming. Eat more beef!

Sorry - I couldn't resist. You have a legitimate question and it deserves a legitimate answer. I don't know. No one knows how much impact man has had, and how much of this is just the earth's natural cycle. If it *is* mostly the earth's natural cycle, there isn't much you *can* do about it. But it's never a bad idea to walk, bike, or take the bus if you can.

Just because I don't buy the hype about global warming doesn't mean I think people should just trash the place, either - if it was up to me, people who litter would get hefty fines and serious community service time....picking up trash, of course. We only have one planet - why not try to leave it a little cleaner than we found it?

Char - I wouldn't be bashing other posters, dearie - it's the ELECTORAL votes that win the election....that makes Gore full of it yet again.

Look up on the Google search engine Ice age scare and see why so many don't believe in this global warming. It was only a few years ago we had this same situation only it was an ice age. It seems pretty strange how we were all going to be encased in a glaciar and only a few yrs later we're going to fry! Both claims brought in a lot of big bucks for those promoting the scare. Evidently when we didn't freeze they had to change it in order to bring back the bucks.

We aren't causing it, and don't have the capability to cause it, and we don't have the capability to stop it either. It's a natural cycle that has been happening for the past billion years. The Earth warms up and cools down. We are too small to have an effect on it. Politicians just use global warming as a means to scare people and to push their political agendas across. Do research and get the facts, don't listen to the media or politicians.

We CAN stop global warming. We can do so by not only riding bicycles, but by also abandoning anything or any appliance that uses electricity. In the face of overwhelming evidence, that is the only logical way we can save Mother Earth....Are you suggesting that Al Gore isn't correct in his assessment of Global Warming? Why would he state anything that's incorrect? As Democrats, we're on the right side of the debate on this issue, and any alternative views must be silenced immediately and absolutely (for the sake of impartiality and fairness)....Also, the crackpots who murmur falsities against our way should be "dealt with" like those who are enemies of the State!

Global warming is a cycle. Look at the phases of the earth. The devonia...the ice age...now... The only way we can stop "global warming" is to get idiots like Al Gore (inventor of the internet) to put a sock in it. Any scientist with any sense will tell you the exact same thing.
