They add a number for each answer.

Same as above but its easier to see this way.

1+2=3
3+3=6
6+4=10
10+5=15
therefore, the next in line would be:
15+6=21

1-3-6-10-15

1(+2)-3(+3)-6(+4)-10(+5)-15

Starting with the number 1, we add 2 to make 3, and then we increase 2 by 1 and we get 3 and then we add 3 to 3 and we get 6. Then we add 1 more to 3 and we get 4 and then we add 4 to 6 to get 10 and so on.

Try this function: n*(n+1)/2
n=1: 1*2/2=1
n=2: 2*3/2=3
n=3: 3*4/2=6
n=4: 4*5/2=10
n=5: 5*6/2=15
...
It is known as the triangle of Pascal.
