Generally, it will cost anywhere from $2000 - $5000 depending on the type of car, transmission you want installed, and how much customization is needed. Transmissions cost $1500+. You also have to account for labor, any additional parts that may be needed, and extra for customization. If you know someone that can do it RIGHT for less. Take it.

if its the 2.0L engine then its probably not worth it. That engine was a crapper anyway. Don't get me wrong it can be done but I would say 3k to make the conversions. if its the 2.3Litre then yes that can be done for perhaps 1000 bucks. Automatic transmissions exist for that engine configuration. You can buy another truck a lot cheaper. Better yet put a v8 in it and a C4 tranny and machine shop the drive shaft.

all you need to do is remove the manual tranny and replace it with an auto tranny. An auto tranny for the same make and model car will hook up to the engine exactly the same. THe problem is getting a auto tranny (about $1000-2000) and placeing the gear selector. Most Pickups have the gear selector mounted on the stearing column.
I'd personally replace the manual tranny befor trying to adapt the truck for an auto one.

P.S. It's alot easier to put a manual tranny in where an auto tranny was.

$$$Price is an extreme variable when model is not known labor as well.eg 00 civic 3000 give or take Mercedes 5000+ and so on..... Not worth the resources or time; unless you NEED to keep the car for some various reasons??

close to $2,000.00 you'd be better trading your vehicle for one that has an automatic that and the chances of it working 100 percent are slim.
