Is there some unspoken rule that all "country music" stars must be pre-Iraq War Republicans? That is, never disagree with the president if he does something totally awful, especially if he is a Republican?
Remember that Natalie Maines made this comment to an audience in London. Yes, she might have been pandering slightly to a different audience than she was used to.
But, do any of you remember when "Larry The Cable Guy" referred to her as "the li'l fat one" who "oughtta shut up!" ? Here, "Larry" was very obviously pandering to an audience he claims to know very well. Did that performance anger any Dixie Chick haters?
Don't answer this question if you never liked them musically. Tastes, I can understand. But if you liked them before, and hate them now, despite the fact that the politics have changed in the US, tell me why.

Well most country music fans are conservative and Bush is a conservative. So when they spoke ill of Bush it was like an attack on them. Personally I praised the Dixie Chicks for what they said.

They weren't snubbed. There were just better performers and albums this year. Don't read any more into it. "Taking the Long Way" is a good, but not great, album. Diamond Rio, Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, Brooks & Dunn, Lonestar and Rascal Flatts all had better albums and songs this year. Of course, the ACM has also "snubbed" The Bellamy Brothers, Shania Twain (until 2000), and Conway Twitty (solo). The Dixie Chicks already have 10 CMA awards and are the first country-rooted act in Grammy history to receive three Album of the Year nominations. At the 49th Grammy Awards Show in 2007, they won all five categories for which they were nominated, including the coveted Song, Record, and Album of the Year. I'm sure they're not losing any sleep over the CMA awards. I am obviously in the minority. I listen to music because I like it, not because I care about the political views of the performers. I like Charlie Daniels music, too. I don't care that he is a rabid Bush supporter. I don't understand how people can still be so enraged about a comment made 4 years ago by an entertainer about a President, yet ignore a comment made 4 days ago by an entertainer about a former Senator. The hypocracy is laughable...

Because the Dixie Chicks had the balls to stand up to King Bush and let him know what they really think about him. I never cared for the Dixie Chicks UNTIL their stand on the war. I think the Dixie Chicks are cool. Go see the documentary about their experience "Shut Up and Sing." (URL below) It's very powerful. Thank goodness we still have a 1st Amendment in this Country... for now...

You guys are missing the whole point of the outrage. The Dixie Chicks were pandering to a crowd of anti-Americans. It wasn't so much what they said, it was that they went to a foreign land and made such statements about our president. I'm all for free speech, but why wouldn't they come to US and give a free concert for war opponents? There wouldn't have been the outrage. I'm not for this war, either. However, especially so soon after 9/11, we needed to have a united front against these monsters who committed this horrible crime. We didn't need some singers going to a foreign land, and making fools out of themselves and the U.S. I adored the band before this happened. I will never buy another CD of theirs.

I've never been a country music fan, nor have really listened to any of the Dixie Chicks' songs (I still don't care for their work) but when I heard they spoke out against Bush and his administration, I applauded it.
What the Dixie Chicks did was very risky, and not to mention, very courageous. I really thought that their careers would suffer the wrath of conservatives and bigots alike. I was pleasantly surprised to discover, as I did during the recent Grammy Awards, that they are stronger than ever.

did u know they were getting hate mail reall bad too, so they put it in2 their song not ready 2 b nice
i lov the dixie chicks n i think that coz country singers arent all in2 drugs n 1million doller earings that their voices shuld be heard, but not make it pollitical that country singers r betta in taste coz there are some gwd behaived singers out there

Well, I don't think it has to do mainly with that, but artists should keep their political views to themselves.
I strongly agree with RyKen's mom. It almost upsets me as much as the mob of "Bush did 9/11" loitering around Ground Zero on the Anniversary of 9/11. People need to be comforted for the loss of their loved ones, not listening to "The Government did this! Bush lied! Bush did it!!"
And of course, they didn't have the guts to do it in America.

Most "country folk" are Republicans. which i find odd.
Having a hick for a president is like a God-send for them LOL
I liked the dixie chicks before those comments, and LOVED them and gained alot of respect for them AFTER those comments...finally artists who are being real and straight up about what is going on!

The grammys are a liberal controlled joke. The dixie licks are another example of someone believing their own press releases. They were too gutless to say their piece on American soil, which is my main beef with them. They were on foreign soil. They should be harassed til heck freezes over.
