I write poetry and I have been approached by a publishing company to compile my poems into a book. They are willing to pay the intial expenses of publishing it and that confused me a bit. Has anyone heard of this company? They became familar with my work through poetry.com (and yes I am aware of their scams when it comes to their anthologies).

Publish Today is the same company that runs Poetry.com. Real publishers don't visit poetry.com looking for writers. Real publishers laugh at Poetry.com.

Did they contact you via e-mail or via letter? I'd be interested in seeing the actually letter they sent you. If you would be so kind, if it was an e-mail could you forward it to me? I run a monthly newsletter that includes information on scams and publishing. If this is their newest scam, I'd like to share it with my readers! I also know others in the industry who may be interested in alerting their readers about this as well.

You can forward it to jdawson(at)bardsandsages(dot)com.

Self-publishing does have a place in publishing. there are a number of initiatives for which self-publishing is definitely greater ideal than advertisement publishing. And that's a thank you to get study in case you have a sturdy e book that did no longer make it into advertisement publishing for motives different than unfavorable high quality (ie, area of interest industry with a small readership or books that are sturdy yet perchance lack that little something which will distinguish them from the rest.) yet i think of self-publishing is something that maximum individuals could stay far flung from. It demands very particular enterprise skills and it demands a actual understanding of what your paintings is definitely well worth. Too many beginner writers self-post absolute trash thinking it is stunning via fact they are basically deluded. that's why I quite advise youthful writers against self-publishing. you basically don't comprehend yet at that time what you may write later and you do no longer p.c. to break your acceptance as a author with subpar paintings you self-printed in the previous you have been waiting.

It's ONE BIG SCAM! Don't even give them the time of day! This is NOT legitimate publishing. They approach EVERYONE who is on poetry.com (another rather worthless site). If you are already aware of scams of this sort, then this one should raise an ENORMOUS red flag! No one is publishing poetry today (no LEGITIMATE publisher anyway) because there is no market for it in the real literary world. Ha, the initial expenses of publishing, they tell you. Trust me, they will ask for money from you very soon if you decide to take them up on their sleazy offer. These people prey on the naive and those so desperate to see their name in print they will do anything! PLEASE DON'T GET SUCKED IN!

Nancy:
I checked and checked, could not find on net? Just don't give them any $$ no matter what they claim. If legitimate they will ask for none.
If bad guys, once they have your confidence they will ask for $$ to critique your work or other such things as this. I f they ask for any $$ for any reason, they are bad guys. Check Warnings & Cautions for Writers.
